Echuca church funding

A heritage church will be protected

St Andrews Uniting Church Echuca has been awarded a matched grant of $200,000 for conservation works to restore the gothic revival church, designed by a local Echuca architect and engineer in 1901.

The works will address the deteriorating condition of spaces in the Church used by the parish and community for community outreach.

The repairs will enable the continued use of the Church’s facilities for the local community.

The funding was part of the Andrews Labor Government's Living Heritage Program, granting a record $3-million in funding.

The Minister for Planning Richard Wynne said the program is the biggest boost to heritage assets in Victorian history.

"This program is saving significant heritage sites all over Victoria and preserving them for future generations," he said.

"Heritage is not just about preserving history, it’s a major part of rural and regional Victoria’s tourism industry and
contributes to sustainable economic development."

This year's program has funded 27 projects, which included repairs and conservation works on significant places and
objects, and supported traditional trades and increased tourism opportunities.
