The reduction comes following their 'Free Feline Friday' adoption drive that was extended for the whole weekend.

Eight adult cats and four kittens were adopted as part of the drive,

Operations Manager Kate Kemp said there are still 29 cats in need of their 'purr-fect' homes, with another 30 becoming available in the coming weeks.

She says the weekend was successful but more cats need to find homes

"We were hoping obviously for more, but at least that's 12 that have found homes already," she said.

"We still have 29 that need homes, and more and more coming up for adoption every day."

Ms Kemp said due to cats active breeding cycles, this time of year always has a high demand for re-homing surrendered cats and kittens.

"At this stage we don't have an end date for the fee reduction," she said.

"We'll be keeping that going until we can significantly reduce the numbers, because unfortunately as one goes out another ten come in."

All felines at the shelter are flea and worm treated, desexed, micro-chipped and vaccinated.

They have also been assessed as having good temperaments that make them suitable for re-homing.

Normal adoption processes and council registration fees still apply.
