NSW RFS District Manager, Superintendent Patrick Westwood, said it is putting their fire-fighting and life-saving efforts at risk.

"They seem to be getting into our fire stations and taking vital gear that is used for both fire fighting and saving lives, which includes defibrillators, radios, fire fighting tools, and also equipment for maintaining the truck."

Mr Westwood said communities are the ones being impacted by the crimes.

"Our members and the communities have a right to be upset about what's happening," he said.

"It's directly affecting their safety in the event of a fire and/or another emergency."

A number of stations across the Riverina and Murray region have been targeted.

"The matter is still under police investigation but we'd like to bring to the attention to the community that we've had over a dozen stations targeted by these break ins, that are primarily happening in rural/remote locations."

Mr Westwood is urging residents to contact Crimestoppers on 1800 333 000, if they have any information in relation to the incidents.
