Speak Up Chair Shelley Scoullar said she received many phone calls following the election, and it has given the community confidence in their representation.
"What I think it actually does for this region is it has someone in there, in Parliament, who will be able to keep Bureaucrats and Departments in account," she said.
"She'll be able to keep them accountable because she knows her stuff, and I think that's really a great thing for our region."
Minister for Regional Water Niall Blair also resigned from his role, following the election.
Ms Scoullar said this provided renewed hope for a sensible solution to the Murray-Darling Basin Plan.
"Hopefully we can have a fresh start.
"Hopefully whoever the next Water Minister is really comes and engages with grassroots organisations who have loads of local knowledge and experience in water, and can be a real asset."
A new Minister for Regional Water is yet to be announced.
